Born from practice

Grid Services was founded in 2022 from the installation world in the Bollenstreek region, where we early on encountered complex systems full of solar panels, CHP units, heat pumps and climate control. There we took our first steps in smart grids, not from theory but from the question of how to make installations work together and optimally utilise available capacity. Growing grid congestion made it clear that more cables or larger connections are not always possible or economically logical. The challenge shifted to insight, data, control and governance. This is how Grid Services evolved: from technical solutions to connecting, managing and optimising the entire energy system.

One working energy system

Many organisations have already invested in sustainable or electric solutions. Yet solar panels, charging stations, batteries and heat pumps do not automatically work together to deliver the desired result. Without central governance, fragmentation emerges: charging points cause peaks, generation is not utilised, capacity becomes overloaded and costs become unmanageable. We bring these components together in one managed system and connect technology, data, contracts, users and cost structures. This way energy becomes understandable and manageable again.

Our governance layer

Our approach rests on a single central governance layer with four interconnected levels:

• Measure and understand. Consumption, generation, peaks, capacity, contracts and metering points in one reliable picture.
• Choices and priorities. Determine what must always be available, which processes are critical and which limits must not be exceeded.
• Control for value. Limit peaks, better utilise capacity, smart charging and storage, and reduce energy costs. New value streams also emerge around flexibility, allocation and monetising renewable energy and certificates.
• Look ahead. Anticipate growth, electrification, grid congestion and changing tariffs, so that choices are made in time.
